Alnarp Cleanwater – Sustainable Water Solutions for a Better Future
Welcome to Alnarp Cleanwater, a company dedicated to creating sustainable, eco-friendly water solutions that protect our environment and support a healthier planet. Founded in 2008 at the university campus in Alnarp, Sweden, we have developed an innovative system inspired by nature’s processes for wastewater treatment. Our commitment to clean water and environmental stewardship is a part of our DNA and drives everything we do.

Vision
A world in balance. Where we help our customers create a circular and sustainable society without eutrophication and pollution in the environment and water. Where biodiversity is favored.
Environmental knowledge meets technical competence
At our head office in beautiful Alnarp, technical competence meets environmental knowledge. All employees at Alnarp Cleanwater have in common that we want to make it easy and beneficial for owners of individual sewers to be environmental heroes. We are concerned about the negative impact on the environment that individual drains often have.
That is why we are incredibly proud of our bio-purification plant, which solves the problems in a natural way while also being a smoother and more robust product for our customers.

How does it work?
The spring of Alnarp Cleanwater’s solutions is the ACT® Bioreningsverk, a biological treatment system for onsite wastewater management. Designed to mimic the natural purification processes of wetlands, the system uses no chemicals and ensures a sustainable and effective method for wastewater treatment.
1. ProACT – Advanced Sludge Reduction
o The first stage of the ACT® system, ProACT uses a unique sludge digestion process, reducing the need for frequent sludge removal. This innovative approach minimizes maintenance and improves efficiency.
2. InterACT – Compact Wetland Filtration
o In the second stage, the InterACT wastewater passes through a constructed wetland where aquatic plants and microorganisms work together to remove pollutants, providing a natural filtration process developed over millions of years.
3. ReACT – Phosphorus Filtration
o For high protection levels (hög skyddsnivå) , the ReACT module effectively captures excess phosphorus, ensuring compliance with strict environmental standards.
The ACT® Bioreningsverk is particularly effective at breaking down pharmaceutical residues and hormones, outperforming traditional treatment systems. This ensures safer effluent, protecting both ecosystems and public health.
Since ACT® is based on natural processes it requires close to no maintenance and no supply of chemicals which saves you both time and money. Thanks to our unique sludge degrading system sludge removal is put to a minimum (approximately every 10th year). The microorganisms and plants adapt automatically to variation in wastewater load, meaning that no adjustments are needed once everything is installed.
All users, from small households to large facilities such as hotels, benefit from using ACT®. It can easily be upgraded to manage larger loads of sewage or tougher treatment requirements.
ACT® has an outstanding ability to take care of unwanted substances. Tests carried out by the Swedish Environmental Research Institute show that ACT® purifies the water from pharmaceutical residues better than average municipal wastewater treatment plants.
How to acquire a waste water treatment plant
1: Treatment demands
The treatment demands are decided by the municipality and depend on the distance to sensitive water streams and what type of soil you have on your property. If you do not already know what demands apply to your property, we will provide you with that information
2: Get permission
Before installing a new wastewater treatment plant you need permission from the authorities. We gladly assist you in filling out the application form.
3: Installation
We are happy to visit you in order to advice you regarding the best solution for your property (free of charge). ACT NaturalTM is easy to install and we can help you to find a contractor who can perform the installation.
Rainwater Harvesting Systems – Reducing Water Waste

In partnership with the Danish company WaterCare, Alnarp Cleanwater offers advanced rainwater harvesting systems. These solutions help reduce the reliance on treated drinking water by reusing rainwater for various applications, from irrigation to household tasks.
Why Choose Rainwater Harvesting?
- Water efficiency: when watering is forbidden during dry seasons you can still use rainwater for watering dry plants and other non-potable purposes.
- Sustainability: Reusing rainwater for non-potable purposes such as toilet flushing, garden watering, and cleaning conserves valuable drinking water resources.
- Environmental Responsibility: Capturing and reusing rainwater minimizes runoff, reducing erosion and water pollution while promoting circular water use.
Our commitment
Produced using green energy and biogas, our rainwater systems are manufactured sustainably. WaterCare’s social responsibility initiatives include employing individuals facing physical or social challenges, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 13 (Climate Action), and 14 (Life Below Water).
Why Alnarp Cleanwater?
